This one-of-a-kind necklace features a gorgeous Septarian fossil stone carved into a teardrop shape accented with a handcrafted sterling silver bail with a rustic, organic texture and abstract twists of sterling silver wire. The stone has a dark brownish-black background with a natural matrix of vibrant streaks of creamy beige. Septarian fossils were formed during the Cretaceous period - 50 to 70 million years ago. Decomposing sea life killed by volcanic eruptions had a chemical attraction to the sediment around them which formed mud balls. As the ocean receded, the balls were left to dry, crack and shrink which created the spectacular patterns inside.

MEASUREMENTS: Pendant measures 2-7/8" in total length (from top of bail to bottom of stone) and 1-5/8" at widest point. It comes on a 20" stainless steel round box chain with lobster claw closure. I hand sawed the neck piece out of solid sterling silver sheet; hand filed all edges until meticulously smooth; then lightly hammered it for texture. The silver was oxidized and then buffed and polished for a satin sheen. It is signed on the back with my initials and sterling stamp.

NOTE: Please refer to measurements above. Photos are enlarged to show details.
